Landscape Paintings - Adoring the Mother Earth

Landscape Paintings had got its fullest recognition as a genre in fifteenth century. The artists used the natural scenes to depict the religious imagery and human activities before this period, too. The medieval paintings like Garden of Eden and Sea of Galilee or the artworks like Flight into Egypt, theJourney of the Magi are the evidences of the importance of putting the landscapes on canvas. The Miniature painters in India, too, used flora and fauna and the landscape scenes for decorating their frames during the medieval period.

Until the period of 18th century the art of painting the landscapes was confined to four walls of the artists' studios. There after the painters went outside of their studios with their easels and colours and brushes to fill their canvases. They were full of feeling to reflect their attitudes towards the nature and the place of the human race in the nature. These artists honoured and celebrated the looks of the natural environment and they honoured that in every possible ways.

The landscape painting is a subject as wide as the Mother Earth itself. These paintings can have endless beauty and infinite number of subjects. Under the umbrella of Landscape Paintings, we can have paintings of countryside, the sea-scape and sky-scape.

The works of the masters are the most valuable guide to the artists. The master artists have put their imaginations and labour to adore the landscapes they chose to paint. No list can be a complete list of these memorable painters; but looking at the artworks of some of the master artists, we can have an idea about who had ploughed into this artistic land called the art of painting landscapes.
